NCRA SIRC

The Scientific Information Resource Centre (SIRC) of NCRA, with book collections in Pune and GMRT campus caters to the requirements of the academic and engineering users. The SIRC activities in the Pune campus started during 1989 and activities in the GMRT campus started during 1992. SIRC strives to provide various online services such as e-journals and databases to their users along with print services such as books.

The collection at both the centres is more than 17000 which includes books and bound volumes. Every year around 500 books are added in the SIRC. New books are acquired on the basis of suggestions made by the SIRC users at NCRA and GMRT or from books received on approval. The NCRA, Pune campus library has a large collection of books and journals on Astronomy, Astrophysics, Mathematics, Physics and computer science whereas the books available in the GMRT campus library are on engineering subjects including computer science.

SIRC uses the Library Automation Software (KOHA) for all its library management operations that are carried out at both the campus. OPAC database is available for users on web through http://libncra.ncra.tifr.res.in:8081

SIRC has initiated maintaining digital library of important documents available in the Pune and GMRT campuses. The digital library is maintained using DSpace Institutional Repository Software, an open source software tool. About 400 documents are made available to users in DSpace. These documents can be accessed by users from http://ncralib2.ncra.tifr.res.in:8080/jspui. Several MySQL databases have been set up by the SIRC to maintain the records of research publications by the NCRA academic staff in addition to publications resulting from data taken using for the two major facilities that NCRA operates namely Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope and the Ooty Radio Telescope. SIRC webpage is maintained using Drupal Content Management Software.
